Hun Sen Attends the Opening Ceremony of No. 3 Highway ProjectDate: 03/06/2022
On March 2, the opening ceremony of the No. 3 Highway Reconstruction and Expansion Project undertaken by CRBC was held. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian and Cambodian Minister of State and Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Zantuo jointly attended the event.
Hun Sen sincerely thanked the Chinese government and people for their selfless help to Cambodia. He expressed that No. 3 Highway is an important passage connecting the capital Phnom Penh and the coastal provinces in the southwest. After the reconstruction and upgrading by the Chinese side, the road is now smooth, wide, and brand-new. The transportation efficiency and driving safety have been greatly enhanced, and the economic and social development of the areas along the route has also been improved. This is another fruitful cooperation achievement of the Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the building of a community of shared future between the two countries, which reflects the iron-clad friendship between the two countries.
Wang Wentian pointed out that No. 3 Highway not only has far-reaching strategic significance for the coordinated economic development of Cambodia's southwestern coastal area and the capital, Phnom Penh, but also is particularly important for the Cambodian government to implement the road backbone network upgrade plan. In terms of bilateral relations between China and Cambodia, the completion and smooth opening of the No. 3 Highway Reconstruction and Expansion Project once again reflects the strong momentum and fruitful results of the China-Cambodia pragmatic cooperation. In the future, China will, as always, provides assistance within its capacity to Cambodia in improving the national road network. The construction of No. 31, 33 and 41 Highways supported by loans from the Chinese government is also expected to start within this year.
The Cambodia No. 3 Highway Reconstruction and Expansion Project is located in the southwest of Cambodia, passing throughPhnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Takeo and Kampot provinces. The main line is 134.826 kilometers long. The Project started in October 2018 and completed the initial inspection in July 2021. During the construction of the Project, the construction team overcame the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, established a complete epidemic prevention system in combination with local epidemic prevention policies, and adhered to both epidemic prevention and production, which not only ensured the production progress and quality, but also did a good job in epidemic prevention and control. The Project was completed 15 months ahead of schedule, reflecting the speed and quality of China.
