On July 29, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge (EP Bridge), one of the two bridge projects over the Pasig River in the Philippines under the assistance of the Chinese government  and undertaken by CRBC, was opened to traffic. The ceremony was attended by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian, and cabinet members of the Philippine government including those from the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport.

In his speech, Duterte said that the completion of the EP Bridge marked another milestone of the country’s "grand construction" plan. The honor went to the Chinese government, which had provided free aid, and to those who had worked hard for the Project.

Huang expressed that with the cooperation and support of the two governments, the EP Bridge was successfully implemented and opened to traffic ahead of schedule, indicating that the Sino-Philippine cooperation project has moved from planning and construction to harvest. He thanked the teams of the two sides, including CRBC, for overcoming the adverse impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, making concerted efforts and close cooperation, and always pushing forward the project construction with high standards and high quality.

The Philippine Minister of Public Works, Mark Vera, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese government for its assistance in building the EP Bridge and the hard work of the teams from both sides and CRBC. He said the opening of the EP Bridge had created conditions for a 10-minute commute in the cities of Mandaluyong and Makati.

Later, Duterte and Huang Xilian jointly unveiled the Project to open to traffic and visited the bridge on foot.

The two bridge projects on the Pasig River are the first batch of bridge projects that the Chinese government has provided free assistance to the Philippines since President Duterte took office, and are the flagship projects of the country’s "grand construction" plan. The projects contain the Binodo-Interlamouros Bridge (BI Bridge) and the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge (EP Bridge). The EP Bridge, which is completed and opened to traffic this time, is rebuilt after the old bridge is demolished, with a straight-line distance of about 10 kilometers from the estuary of the Pasig River, having a total length of 506 meters and in two-way 4 lanes. The completion of the bridge will greatly increase the traffic capacity and convenience of the capital Manila area, benefiting local residents.
